New Muni and Arella evolve urban cycling
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The all-new Muni and Arella are Bell’s latest evolution of the purpose-built urban helmet…a category Bell pioneered with the groundbreaking Metro in 2004, by the by. And while the original concept was ahead of the urban cycling renaissance by a few years, the market has now caught up to the ideal, and Bell has taken the opportunity to push things forward once again with even better ease-of-use, improved functionality and evolved styling.
Among the marquee features of the Muni and Arella is the new, hassle-free OneStep Plus fit system. This innovative fit belt automatically adjusts to the rider’s head size, requiring only a couple minor fit tweaks before the first ride. After the initial fitting, the helmet self-adjusts to a custom, correct fit every time you put it on. All that’s left is snugging the buckle—something made easy by Bell’s new ratcheting buckle which makes its debut on this helmet.
The OneStep Plus fit belt also includes integrated rear LED flashers. These sleek, ultra-lightweight lights feature bright, long-life, flashing LEDs for increased conspicuity in low-light situations.
But the lighting doesn’t stop there. The helmet’s unique visor includes a perch mount for the optional Blackburn Flea–an ultralight (17g), ultrabright (40 lumens) headlamp that seamlessly integrates into the visor. The design also includes a strap that can accommodate a rear flashing light—the Blackburn Flea Rear light is our recommendation, but most others will work as well.
The optional Flip Mirror is another accessory that seamlessly integrates into the visor. Featuring a high optic quality, infinitely adjustable mirror, it extends and adjusts easily to the desired angle when in use, and folds to cleanly nestle into the visor when not needed.
Rounding-out the urban-specific features is the built in rain gutter, a unique channel along the edge of the visor that flows rain to ports on the side of the helmet, helping to keep rain out of the rider’s face. You’re welcome Portland.
Arella for the ladies
The Muni and Arella share the same shape, but the Arella was developed with women in mind, incorporating a smaller fit range and female-specific graphics. Still sophisticated and brilliantly simple, the graphics exemplify the helmet’s low-fuss ethos.
OneStep Plus: Three positions and lights
The adult-specific version of OneStep includes three snap positions for fine-tuning the perfect fit. On the other end of the fit system, integrated flashing lights add conspicuity.
Versatile Flip Mirror
The Flip Mirror extends and adjusts easily to the desired angle when in use, and folds to cleanly nestle into the visor when not needed.
This helmet has Fleas
The Muni and Arella were built to specifically accommodate the Blackburn Flea front and rear lights with mounting points tailored to these lightweight and superbright lamps
Ratchet to fit
The all new ratcheting buckle from Bell provides easy fitting with its adjustment range.
New Sanction is light on the head and wallet
The Sanction is Bell’s all-new lightweight, recession-busting full-face helmet. Weighing in at 950 grams, the fully-ventilated, low-profile helmet was designed with the younger rider in mind. Its sizing skews smaller than both its predecessor (the Bellistic) and the more robust Bell Drop, and is squarely aimed at BMX, Super-D and all-mountain riding.
The moto-inspired style lines and graphics are youthful and contemporary, adding to the Sanction’s aggressive attitude.
