
BOULDER, Colo. – Bell Rider Fabian Cancellara (Swiss, Saxo Bank) has been named the 2010 International Cyclist of the Year by VeloNews magazine in their annual year-end awards issue on the strength of his amazing season which included Classics wins at Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, as well as stage wins and a stint in the leader’s jersey at the Tour de France, not to mention his fourth world time trial championship.
Teammate and Tour de France runner-up Andy Schleck (Luxembourg) was named “Climber of the Year” having won two mountain stages of the race as well as the white Best Young Rider’s jersey. Schleck also held the yellow leader’s jersey for five days of the ’10 tour and finished second overall, 41 seconds behind overall winner Alberto Contador.
On the US domestic scene, Bissell’s Ian Boswell was given the nod Domestic Breakthrough Rider of the Year. With an impressive third place overall and first in the best young rider competition at the Tour of Utah, Boswell served notice as a rider to watch. The 19-year old Boswell also notched a win at the Nevada City Classic and did yoeman’s work in the Cascade Classic for his Bissell teammates. Boswell did his US national team proud at the Tour de l’ Avenir helping teammate Andrew Talansky to a second place finish.
